We celebrated Art Deco weekend by having a dress up day at school. We enjoyed sharing our costumes and doing activities from the 1930s during whole school Discovery Time.

Wow! What an amazing turnout for our Grandparents day at school on Friday. The children had an amazing time working with their grandparents and showing them all the great things they do at school. See the photo gallery.

On Thursday afternoon the Junior school had great fun doing Athletics activities. We invited our families to come along and see what we had been learning to do.

Yesterday, the whole school visited Pukemokimoki Marae. The senior school went in the morning and the juniors went in the afternoon. Room 6, our Montessori class stayed the night.

We were welcomed on to the Marae by the Tangata Whenua and took part in the Powhiri. We looked around the wharenui and learnt about Marae kawa. Whaea Piri taught us about the kowhaiwhai patterns and tukutuku panels.

It was a fun visit.

The whole school is going to visit a Marae this week and we have had a visit from Whaea Piri to help us learn about what to do at the Marae. She also showed us how to hongi.

Today the Japanese Drummers, who are touring with the Japanese Rugby Team for the world cup, visited Port Ahuriri.

The children were spellbound as they sat a watched and listened to the very talented drummers.

Kick Start is our pre school programme for children who are 4 years old and will be attending Port School.

The Kick Start children come to school with their Mums or Dads every Wednesday to learn about our school and take part in learning activities. In this photo the children are learning the days of the week in English and Maori, their colours and shapes with Mrs Lawrence.
